“No expectations for pardoning Saakashvili (ex-Georgian President, UNM founder),” said Georgian Dream MP Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday.
MP Papuashvili believes “Saakashvili will not be the only former official who faced justice.”
“Georgian courts of three instances ruled judgment on two cases, namely, he was sentenced to three years for the murder of Sandro Girgvliani and six years for beating Valeri Gelashvili. Moreover, two cases of embezzlement of GEL 8,000,000 and the so-called Imedi TV case are processed,” Papuashvili stated.
The ruling team MP believes “international partners will not be willing to meddle in the release of a man accused of murder and beating.”
Mikheil Saakashvili said he would come to Georgia on election day while the officials pledged to arrest him upon arrival.
Georgia will hold local elections on October 2, 2021.
