Nika Gvaramia supports President’s candidate, rejects Cabinet position
Nika Gvaramia, leader of the For Changes coalition, stated that they will support the candidate presented by President Salome Zourabichvili, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the political spectrum and the president. He expressed the coalition’s commitment to the Georgian Charter, which aligns with the president’s vision for a technical or transitional government.
“We, the Coalition for Changes, support the Georgian Charter, the spirit of which is expressed by the President regarding the creation of a technical government,” Gvaramia said. He clarified that the coalition’s backing for the president’s candidate is contingent on an agreement, whether made before or after the elections.
Gvaramia highlighted the president’s constitutional role in pursuing Georgia’s EU membership.
“The President of Georgia is the only institution that fulfils Article 78 of the Constitution and tries to make Georgia a member of the European Union. All other political officials from the government violate this constitutional provision,” he said.
In response to questions about his future role, Gvaramia confirmed, “I will not be part of the government cabinet named by Salome Zourabichvili.”
