Nika Gvaramia believes int'l organizations must oversee elections; no trust in opposition parties' CEC members

“International organizations should maintain the elections. How this occurs is another matter, but those who label us ‘useful idiots’ are themselves useless fools,” said Nika Gvaramia, leader of the Coalition for Change.

Gvaramia said he lacks trust even in individuals appointed by political parties at polling stations.

“Some opposition representatives occasionally refer to us as ‘useful idiots,’ while offering vague statements presented as plans. Elections conducted by international administrators are not a new concept; there have been many such instances. This does not imply that the entire European Union will personally oversee the commissions. The critical requirement is that impartial individuals make decisions, alongside those they select.

To be candid, I do not trust the personnel appointed by political parties at the precincts. I have witnessed the actions of precinct commission members from various opposition parties in recent elections—have you heard about the ‘greenified-crossed-out’ precincts? Those who speak of party parity are mistaken; this is doing the Georgian Dream’s business. There is no real party parity when billionaires can purchase not only precinct commission members but entire parties.

It must be international organizations, not just observers, that oversee the elections. How this is implemented—whether they assign one person to each precinct and district, or involve non-governmental organizations, which many of us trust as key players—remains a separate issue. However, please relay this: those who call us ‘useful idiots’ are, in fact, useless fools,” Gvaramia concluded in response to a journalist’s question.
