NBG Acting President says EBRD names Georgia as successful reformer
“We are glad that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) named Georgia as a successful reformer country of market development,” said Natia Turnava, Acting President of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) at the 10-year analysis of the EBRD Treasury and NBG financial market development presentation.
At a joint presentation, the EBRD and NBG presented a report prepared with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The report stresses the role of the Georgian national currency, Lari (GEL), in the healthy financing of the local economy and infrastructure.
Natia Turnava remarked that EBRD is one of the strongest partners of the Georgian economy, and the report represents “this decade-long strong cooperation.”
“I would especially highlight our joint plans for the capital market development. In addition, we continue cooperation in the direction of greater diversification of the financial market.
Hereby, I would note that the EBRD supports the de-dollarization project and would further support strengthening Lari and its domination through different financial tools,” she said.
