National Environment Agency – Reoccurrence of disaster in Chuberi is ruled out

Specialists of National Environment Agency studied the current situation in Chuberi, Svaneti region.

Merab Gaprindashvili, Head of Geology Department of the Agency told First Channel that reoccurrence of the natural disaster in Chuberi was ruled out.

“The situation turned to tense on July 4. Geologic and hydrology processes came into concurrence. Melting of snow was added by abundant precipitation. Some complications may follow but not of large-scale as this time. Prevention activities are being carried out at difficult places,” Gaprindashvili said.

Due to heavy rain the part of mountain in Chuberi collapsed which caused flooding of River Nenskra. Chuberi village and several other settlements are remaining isolated from the rest of the world. The landslide destroyed bridges and swept away 2 houses.
