National Environment Agency: Black Sea water quality in Georgia is within norm

Bulgarian experts shared information on ongoing research and findings in the Black Sea with their Georgian counterparts at a sub-regional group meeting in Burgas, Bulgaria, which was organized with assistance from the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

According to the agency, both Georgian and Bulgarian waters in the Black Sea have water quality that is within the normal range, including the overall amount of petroleum hydrocarbons, heavy metals, and other chemical markers.

“The anchovy stock assessment meeting at Burgas, Bulgaria, aimed at protecting biological resources in the Black Sea and encouraging sustainable fisheries.” It is crucial to stress that a thorough stock assessment contributes to the sustainable development of the fishing sector,” the ministry stated.
