Natia Mezvrishvili – There is no place for police at school

Natia Mezvrishvili, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs says that the draft-bill on reformation of Institute of School Guards aims at increasing authorities to school guards and provision of balance between safe environment at school and protection of pupils’ rights.

Mezvrishvili told journalists that school guards will be allowed to use suspension mechanism with purpose of neutralizing conflicts among school students both inside the school and outside the building, and installation of video cameras for surveillance both indoor and outer perimeters will become obligatory.

Based on the draft-bill, the rule of appointment of school guards will change and coordination among ministries will increase. “The draft project aims at assigning more authorities to school guards and does not envisage introduction of police components at school. There is no place of police at school,” Mezvrishvili stated.

The Parliamentary Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee will discuss the draft-bill on reformation of Institute of School Guards with the first hearing today.
