MP Botchorishvili: Greek Deputy FM assures support for Georgia's EU candidate status
Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee, met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Alexandra Papadopoulou.
According to Botchorishvili, the Georgian delegation received assurance of Greece’s support for granting EU candidate status to Georgia.
“Our main task now is to secure support from our partners. Greece has unequivocally expressed its supportive position, and we have received a commitment that Greece will indeed back Georgia in its steps toward joining the European Union and obtaining candidate status. Greece views the enlargement process as crucial, and in this context, they believe Georgia should be included,” Botchorishvili stated.
During the meeting, discussions included the challenges facing Georgia under occupation and yesterday’s fact of killing a Georgian citizen by the Russian occupation forces.
“Such issues should not remain beyond the attention of our international partners,” Botchorishvili added.
