MP Botchorishvili: EC's report highlights Georgia's progress in EU Integration
“The European Commission’s report published yesterday is a significant document as it evaluates many aspects of Georgia’s relationship with the European Union and clearly reflects Georgia’s progress,” stated Maka Botchorishvili, Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Parliament of Georgia.
Botchorishvili highlighted that integration into the European Union is a challenging and lengthy process, requiring ongoing efforts.
“We’re clear about aiming to fulfill over 90% of the association agreement by 2028, so each annual report will demonstrate Georgia’s progress across various areas,” said Botchorishvili.
“The report addresses critical aspects, including recommendations and evaluations that we will carefully review to address the concerns raised by the European Commission. The laws passed by the Georgian Parliament aim to reflect the country’s essential needs and societal values. For instance, the EU has expressed concerns about the Transparency Law and the Family Values Protection Act, which some critics have labeled as discriminatory. We can discuss these issues related to potential discrimination.
Our key expectation is to have constructive dialogue with the EU,” Botchorishvili concluded.
The European Commission recently published its 2024 report on EU enlargement.
