MP Botchorishvili accuses President of undermining Georgia's interests and institutions
Maka Bochorishvili, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration, accused President Salome Zourabichvili of undermining Georgia’s national interests and disregarding state institutions and the constitution.
Botchorishvili argued that recent campaigns against the election outcome harm Georgia’s interests and obstruct its progress toward EU integration. She emphasized the importance of thoroughly investigating these accusations, particularly if they are found to lack basis.
“We must take appropriate steps to respond to these developments. If there is any basis for the serious accusations we’ve heard, they should be properly investigated and addressed. If these accusations are unfounded, then those responsible must clarify the intent behind such claims, which undeniably harm Georgia’s interests.
One of the nine key steps toward EU integration for Georgia involved holding elections that meet international standards. Campaigns aimed at discrediting the elections only hinder Georgia’s progress toward this goal.
Those promoting narratives that contradict Georgia’s European aspirations should explain what purpose their baseless accusations serve,” She stated.
“President Zourabichvili disregards the state institutions and the constitution. Our society sees this clearly, and now the international community sees it too. The fact that the United States has urged her to cooperate with the investigation speaks volumes—she should either substantiate her claims or clarify what is true and what is not,” Botchorishvili concluded.
