MP Akubardia: Opposition's strategy remains unclear, party activities should focus on creating centre of gravity
Theona Akubardia, an opposition MP, expressed that the opposition’s strategy for the upcoming 2024 elections is yet unclear. She emphasized that a shared vision for the opposition is equally crucial, while party programs are significant.
Akubardia highlighted the challenge posed by the 5% threshold in the electoral system, stressing the importance of early consultations among the opposition to address this challenge.
“Failure to surpass the threshold by opposition parties could allow the ruling Georgian Dream party to benefit from undistributed mandates and maintain its majority.
Therefore, consultations should start early. I have no plans to leave politics. I had no consultations yet. Once there’s substantial content and insight, consultations will begin.
I think there’s a lack of content in the opposition, and it should be focused on addressing pressing issues for the population. Additionally, the form of this content should instil confidence that the opposition can win the elections,” the MP remarked.
Akubardia emphasized that the focus of the opposition activities should be on defining the form of a centre of gravity.
