Moldovan President says political support for reforms 'crucial'

Moldovan President Maia Sandu, on Monday, underlined “complete political support” for the reforms needed for the EU membership.

In a joint press point with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, she stated, “every country has promises to keep. Moldova must satisfy nine prerequisites, while Georgia must meet its own.”

“I did not perceive any significant changes in the Associated Trio framework following the EU decision; both Georgia and Moldova have conditions to meet,” she went on.

Sandu emphasised the need to carry out the reforms “promised to the population.”

Alluding to the domestic challenges linked to the reforms, the Moldovan President mentioned “the judicial system and the strengthening of numerous institutions.”

“First and foremost, it is our priority and obligation to our citizens and our commitment to the European Union. These reforms have complete political backing in Moldova.

In general, political and people’s support are more potent than this resistance. We will continue in this manner, and we will be successful on our route to European integration,” Sandu stated.
