“The Moldovan people chose a future in the European Union. I am proud of every single Moldovan, who stood up for democracy. Our people have shown incredible resilience in the face of immense challenges, foreign interference, vote-buying schemes implemented by fugitive oligarchs with Russian money, and attempts to destabilize the country,” stated Moldovan President Maia Sandu ahead of the European Political Community (EPC) Summit in Budapest.

As Sandu noted, despite everything, the Moldovan people chose democracy, freedom, and a European future.

“I’m here today to speak to the EU leaders about the situation in Moldova and about the fact that we need more support to strengthen our institutions so they could better protect the Moldovan democracy. We want Moldovans to decide for Moldova, not Russian money, and of course, Moldova’s EU path is important not just for Moldova, but for the stability and security on the continent.

We all need to continue to fight for freedom and for democracy. Our future in the EU is the main objective for all of us, all those who want to protect freedom and democracy,” Maia Sandu declared.
