Mikheil Saakashvili – King Davit The Builder was remembered by nobody during 5 centuries, I am nobody in comparison to him, but I think I will be remembered sooner than him
Mikheil Saakashvili, former President of Georgia and Chairman of Reforms Executive Committee of Ukraine gave an interview to a prominent Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon.
Saakashvili said in the interview that Georgians got tired of him but still respect him. He said he believed that Georgian people would remember him after three or five centuries.
“David the Builder was the greatest king of Georgia. I don’t compare myself to him. King Davit The Builder was remembered by nobody during 5 centuries, although he established the statehood of Georgia. He was rigid, he was neither Stalin nor Caligula but was an inflexible king. I am nobody in comparison to him, but still I think that I will be remembered sooner than him. A person has to be ready for that when you go against outdated dogmas. This is a cultural revolution. You strive for the country’s progress. But pain remains.
Georgian people have the feeling that force was used against them. Yes, they want to be on this side and do not want to return back. However, the person who took them to the other riverbank, cause mixed feelings in the population. Russian propaganda is added all to this,” Saakashvili said.
In response to the question, whether he would be president of Georgia in the future, Saakashvili did not give a direct answer. “I do not plan to remain in the back seat. I like being at the steering wheel. Let us see what will happen,” Saakashvili said.
