MIA releases information about new legislative initiative on consumption of Marijuana

Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs released the information about new legislative initiative regarding consumption of Marijuana. The package of legislative initiatives was presented during the governmental sitting.

Consumption of Marijuana in public spaces, public transport, in proximity to schools and educational institutions will be punished;

Involvement of youngsters under age of 21 in consumption of Marijuana will be punished according to criminal rule;

Consumption of Marijuana while being on duty both for public officials and people working for private organizations will be strictly punished;

Driving a transport means under influence of Marijuana will be punished;

As for production of Marijuana for export with medical and cosmetic purposes, cultivation of Marijuana will be strictly regulated.

A specialized agency will be created for licensing marijuana cultivation for medical purposes. As the Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia stated after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, this agency will determine the license fee and terms of the competition.
