MIA - Police will respond to and prevent any violation of law

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs released a statement in connection with by-elections to be held on May 19 in Georgia.

“On May 19, 2019, during the by-elections, the main goal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia is to ensure public order and conduct of elections in a free, democratic and safe environment.

For this purpose, the Ministry allocates the police forces in the regions and the capital city of Georgia. Besides, upon necessity, during this period the police forces might be allocated across the country.

Police officers exercise their authority within the limits of the law, in order to ensure the conduct of elections in a safe and peaceful environment.

We appeal to all persons and organizations involved in the electoral process, regardless of their political affiliation, to observe the law, and if necessary, apply to the police and facilitate the conduct of elections in a peaceful environment.

During elections, police will respond to and prevent any violation of law. The police will not permit anyone to exacerbate the situation and every unlawful behavior will be punished.

Police will protect every citizen’s right to make their choice in a peaceful and safe environment,” reads the statement of MIA.
