MIA detains 8 individuals affiliated with criminal underworld

Officers of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), in cooperation with the General Prosecutor’s Office and through operative investigation activities, detained eight individuals affiliated with the criminal underworld in Tbilisi, Rustavi and Chkhorotsku.

The group of detainees offered to mediate a financial dispute between a foreign citizen and a construction company in exchange for payment.

Law enforcers seized cell phones and other evidence, proving the detainees’ link with criminal authorities living abroad. Further investigation is ongoing under Article 223 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
