The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia detained the leader of Victorious Georgia Party Irakli Okruashvili on the charge of organizing, heading and participating in group violence committed during June 20-21 developments in front of the Parliament. In addition, the other four persons have been detained.

Mamuka Chelidze, acting Director of Central Criminal Police Department of MIA stated about it at the briefing held this afternoon.

“On the basis of a judge’s ruling, Irakli Okruashvili was detained by the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs over the 20-21 developments in front of the Parliament for organizing and participating in group violence.

In the course of the investigation, it was established that during the violent storm of the parliament building, Irakli Okruashvili, together with the accompanying persons, called on the demonstrators and tried to violently storm the Parliament building. Irakli Okruashvili also participated in various group acts of violence.

In addition, within the frames of the investigation, law enforcers have detained four more persons for participating in group violence. The investigation established that the mentioned persons participated in the group violence during the June 20-21 developments in front of the Parliament’s building. They attacked police and tried to storm the Parliament”, – the Ministry said.

In Connection with 20-21 June developments, the investigation is carried out under the Articles 225 and 315 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
