MIA apprehends man for assaulting police officers

The law enforcement officers on Wednesday apprehended one person for assaulting police officers. The committed crime envisions up to seven years of imprisonment.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), G.O. (DoB 1983) was arrested several times for various crimes, including violence, health injury, and disobedience to the legal request of a police officer.

“The investigation established that G.O. physically assaulted the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during the manifestation held in Tbilisi, in the vicinity of the Parliament, on May 13 of the current year. In particular, in the course of manifestation, the detainee hit the police officers with his elbow and fist and inflicted a face injury. As a result of the investigative actions, G.O. was detained in Tbilisi by law enforcement officers. The investigation is being conducted under Article 353, part I of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to an attack on a police officer while fulfilling official duties,” reads the statement.
