MFA says gov't plans inviting election observers, regrets of alleged politicization
The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has echoed the recent appeal by the parliamentary faction United National Movement regarding the invitation of OSCE/ODIHR (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights) observers for the 2024 parliamentary elections.
The Ministry emphasized that the timeline for inviting a long-term observation mission to the 2024 parliamentary elections is outlined in a plan approved by the Governmental Commission for European Integration on November 27.
According to the MFA, the plan is publicly available on the Georgian government’s website. It aims to implement recommendations for Georgia outlined in the European Commission’s 2023 enlargement policy report. The plan provides a detailed description of actions and deadlines to ensure a free, fair, and competitive election process in the country.
“Regrettably, some political forces are artificially politicizing the issue and misleading the public,” the MFA remarks.
Today, the parliamentary faction National Movement has urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to invite the OSCE/ODIHR to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia.
