MFA publishes number of Georgians living abroad who are listed on consular registry

Georgian Foreign Ministry (MFA), on Thursday, published the number of Georgians living abroad who are listed on the consular registry.

The MFA noted that “Unfortunately, some individuals are manipulating the statistics published on geoconsul.gov.ge, and claim that 128,000 Georgians have registered for the upcoming parliamentary elections, while the MFA provided the Central Election Commission with the data of 65,000 voters.”

“Launched in 2015, geoconsul.gov.ge records the number of users it has had since then, including adults, minors, stateless individuals, and those with valid travel documents who do not have the right to vote.

On top of that, it includes those persons who de-registered, although remain in the data

Accordingly, the data reflects the total number of people who accessed the consular registration electronic registry, not those who are actively listed on it,” the MFA added.
