MEP Glucksmann: You cannot do deal with Kremlin, and get closer to Europe
“You cannot do a deal with the Kremlin, and get closer to Europe. You can’t continue to promote anti-freedom laws and get closer to Europe. You can’t imprison Saakashvili indefinitely and get closer to Europe,” the French MEP, Raphaël Glucksmann, stated during the debate on Georgia in the European Parliament.
According to him, the European Union should raise its voice and stand by the Georgian democrats.
“The heart of the Georgian people beats for Europe. In the streets, on the squares, the young people wave the European flag as a standard of freedom and dignity. We must stand by their side. Georgian democrats are looking at us. They are expecting us to be much firmer faced with the oligarchs of the country who are undermining Georgian democracy. We have to say things clearly. You cannot do a deal with the Kremlin, and get closer to Europe. You can’t continue to promote anti-freedom laws and get closer to Europe. You can’t imprison Saakashvili indefinitely and get closer to Europe. The badly named Georgian dream is threatening to plunge the nation back into its Russian nightmare. Europe needs to have its voice heard and stand close to its allies, the Georgian democrats,” Raphaël Glucksmann declared.
