Meeting with Borrell focused on Georgia's European perspective, Parliament Speaker says
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili discussed various issues, including Georgia’s European perspective, during his meeting with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Papuashvili stressed the importance of a fair and merit-based decision by the European Union regarding Georgia’s European perspective. He mentioned that all political groups in the Georgian Parliament were represented at the meeting.
“We talked about the European perspective. It was said that it is important for Georgia to implement the recommendations, and, on the other hand, it is important that the EU decision were based on merit, to be fair,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
Among the issues discussed, Papuashvili emphasized the importance of using the term ‘occupation’ in EU documents concerning Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region instead of different terminology. He expressed the need for a proper evaluation of these issues by the European Union and urged for clarity in EU documents regarding the status of these regions.
