March protests activist Lazare Grigoriadis sentenced to 9 years in prison
Lazare Grigoriadis, an activist of the March 7-9 mass protests in Tbilisi, has been sentenced to 9 years in prison, Tbilisi City Court Judge Zviad Sharadze announced.
Lika Bitadze, a defence lawyer, said after the announcement of the verdict that the family would file a lawsuit in the Strasbourg-based European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
The family will also apply to President Salome Zourabichvili with a pardon request, as the convicted youngster’s mother, Tamta Kalandadze, stated.
If the President rejects to pardon Lazare Grigoriadis, the case will go to the Court of Appeals.
Lazare Grigoriadis was arrested on March 29, following March 7-9 mass protests in Tbilisi against the Foreign Influence Transparency bill. Lazare was charged with throwing a Molotov Cocktail at law enforcers and burning a patrol police car.
