Majority Leader: Georgia to become EU member without compromising national pride
The attempts to deceive the populace or obstruct the truth would ultimately fail in the face of widespread public backing, wrote Mamuka Mdinaradze, the leader of the parliamentary majority, on social media.
Mdinaradze reiterated that democracy entails the power of the people.
“We have set the country’s direction with the constitution, and we are confident that Georgia will undoubtedly become a full-fledged member of the European family. However, not at the expense of compromising national pride, sacrificing our national identity, or allowing opacity and interference in the country’s governance through illicit money! Georgia will never tolerate this again!” Mamuka Mdinaradze concluded.
The draft Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence was initiated in the Parliament of Georgia, and the amendments will be discussed further in the Bureau session on Monday. The Georgian Dream party stated that the draft law presented in parliament this year is identical to the one proposed last year, except for one change. Instead of using the term ‘foreign agent,’ the new version uses the phrase ‘an organization carrying out the interests of a foreign power’.
