Lomjaria says Public Defender election process 'transparent'

Georgia’s Public Defender Nino Lomjaria on Wednesday said the future Public Defender election process is transparent.

“The EU’s main recommendation is that the country should have an independent public defender,” she underscored.

She went on to say that “so far, everything is going well; concerns may be tied to particular circumstances, but I believe the process was transparent. The major focus is now on the outcome.”

When asked about Georgia’s imprisoned ex-president, Lomjaria said: “We should await the findings [of the experts]. I will avoid discussing specific diagnoses.”

She paid a visit to Mikheil Saakashvili at the Vivamed Clinic two days ago, claiming the ex-President’s health is “in critical state.”

“I witnessed a patient in an extremely terrible state, one that I couldn’t even comprehend. The physicians admit that his dynamics are negative, i.e. no progress has been noticed,” She continued.
