More than a million voters trusted Georgian Dream (GD), said Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, pledging that this trust will be protected.
“We have a mandate to run this country until 2024,” PM noted while presenting GD’s mayoral candidate Kapiton Jorjoliani in Mestia, a highland townlet in northwest Georgia.
Garibashvili claims the Georgian Dream is “the only rarest exception with no war experience.”
PM vows the government and political team will take responsibility for holding the elections in a transparent, free and fair, competitive, and Covid-safe environment.
“Many election observers should arrive so that not a single question remains unanswered,” he stated.
PM mentioned the opposition saying that part of it sabotaged and boycotted legislative activities with artificial, fabricated accusations and provocations and damaged the country’s international image.
Garibashvili believes the opposition knows it will fail in the upcoming race and sparked talk and unrest over election delay through the Public Defender’s Office.
PM thinks the delay suggestion is part of the United National Movement’s plan.
“Public Defender Nino Lomjaria suggested election delay and PM to impose a state of emergency that will automatically lead to the postponement of the elections. We will not fall for this provocation. The elections will take place, and the Georgian Dream will win,” PM underscored.
The local elections are scheduled for October 2.
Earlier today, opposition figures echoed the delay idea. UNM leader Nika Melia vows his party never requested the postponement. Melia believes leading epidemiologists should inform the public of the possible month-long scenario.
