Lithuanian President reitarates support for Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration
Lithuania fully supports Georgia’s efforts to intensify cooperation with NATO, as well as its independence, territorial integrity, and ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s statehood, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda stated on Monday at a media briefing after meeting with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili.
According to him, Lithuania consistently supports Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
“During the meeting, we had the opportunity to discuss in depth Lithuania and Georgia’s perspectives on cooperation, political dialogue between the nations, and support for Euro-Atlantic integration,” Lithuanian President remarked.
President Nauseda congratulated his Georgian colleague on the European opportunity that Georgia gained last year.
“We sincerely wish that Georgia succeeds in achieving its goal of joining the European Union. The path to EU membership is neither short nor easy. It is a road of transformation that requires visible and concrete reforms for the benefit of the citizens and their well-being. We believe that the European perspective will provide your government with an additional incentive to consolidate its reform efforts,” he added.
Two presidents discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine and its consequences.
“Russia is determined to drag out this disastrous war and to destabilize other regions, including the South Caucasus. Political, military, financial and humanitarian support to Ukraine is vital. It is also important to impose economic sanctions against the aggressor. Measures of economic pressure undermine the aggressor’s ability to continue its imperialist wars,” Lithuanian President asserted.
The meeting also addressed the security challenges, hybrid threats, and disinformation.
