Lithuanian President - We can leap over some steps if there is positive political situation
Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of Lithuania, believes Georgia can leap over certain steps of NATO integration. The President of Lithuania said Georgia must maintain tight military cooperation with NATO. Speaking at a joint briefing with President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Lithuania condemned occupation of Georgian territories by Russia.
“Of course, we must condemn, and we condemn all kinds of aggression and occupation. We fully support your territorial integrity and sovereignty. Sanctions, diplomatic isolation – this is what we have today against Russia.
We support your efforts to strengthen security. In the European context, we support economic development and it is also our investment in the security. As for NATO’s upcoming summit, there is a close relationship between Georgia and NATO, the closest I have ever seen [between the alliance] and any other country wishing to join the alliance.
Your representation is very active in all hotspots and this is the best way Georgia is passing. We wish you to be involved in military cooperation with NATO as you are now and this will give you a chance not to wait for formal names of steps in our relationships. We can leap over some steps if there is a positive political situation,” President of Lithuania said.
