Levan Makhashvili: Instead of sitting at table, they talk to us with EP resolutions; we once again express full readiness to go through all issues

“We will submit to the European Commission a package that includes information on the legislative process, steps taken by the executive branch, including those related to illegal migration and asylum policy,” – said Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament.

According to Makhashvili, all steps are being taken to protect Georgia’s national interests, as well as the security of the European Union and its citizens.

“We can divide the issue into two – one is a technical process and the other is a political process. As for the technical process, we took a number of steps during the spring sessions to ensure that issues related to visa liberalization, among others, were guaranteed. When it came to, for example, illegal migration, asylum policy issues, information campaigns, and the fight against organized crime, we took several steps in this regard and we will provide this information, both on the legislative process and on the steps taken by the executive authorities, to the European Commission in full by the deadlines that have been set.

As for the political process, it is not new when, instead of extending a hand for dialogue and sitting down at the table and talking, they talk to us with letters, and European Parliament resolutions. This is not the way and step that should be taken to talk to the partner. We once again express our full readiness to sit down, and to go through all the issues that concern both of us, not in the sense that ‘I want this’ and ‘you have to do this.'”
