The Leogrand hotel has not been fined regarding safety norms, – hotel owner Erol Avgoren told reporters. According to him, security measures were in line with standards at the hotel.
“The security measures at the hotel meet standards. The hotel has never been fined for non-observance of the safety rules,” said Avgoren.
He expressed his condolences to the family members of the deceased. According to him, the hotel staff will continue to work.
Eleven people died as a result of the fire, which broke out at 5-star Leogrand Hotel in Batumi. Ten people are citizens of Georgia, one – Iran. More than 100 people were evacuated from the building.
The investigation is underway under Article 243 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the violation of fire safety norms.
Fire broke out at at 20:00 on November 24.
