Lelo's Samadashvili sees new U.S. Ambassador’s approval and MEGOBARI Act as key to elevating Georgia in Washington
“The confirmation of the new ambassador’s candidacy is likely to coincide with the process of adopting the MEGOBARI Act, which presents a valuable opportunity to bring Georgia’s concerns to the forefront in Washington,” stated Salome Samadashvili, a member of the Lelo party.
Furthermore, she noted that under the Georgian Dream governance, Georgia has been left without a guardian in Washington and still does not have an appointed ambassador.
“I would like to wish the new American ambassador success in her future endeavours. She has had to work during a challenging period for our country. It saddens me that, as a consequence of the Georgian Dream policies, the suspension of strategic partnership with the United States has coincided with this difficult time. The discussion and approval of the new ambassador’s candidacy must happen alongside the adoption of the MEGOBARI Act, especially if the appointment proceeds swiftly. This would be a significant opportunity for us to elevate Georgia’s issues in Washington. We are aware that, under the Georgian Dream, Georgia has been left unattended in Washington— for instance, we still do not have an ambassador fully appointed in the United States,” Samadashvili emphasized.
The U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, Robin Dunnigan, has recently resigned. The US Embassy issued an official statement regarding her retirement. Dunnigan explained, “I made a personal decision to retire; my government did not request my recall.”
