Legal Issues Committee supports Family Values bill in third reading
The Legal Issues Committee of the Georgian Parliament has approved the draft law On Family Values and Protection of Minors, along with its accompanying legislation, in the third reading.
The draft law addresses several key areas, including marriage, adoption, and foster care for minors; use of medical procedures to alter a person’s gender from their biological sex; gender identification in state-issued documents; education and dissemination of information; public gatherings and demonstrations, labour relations and the acknowledgement of biological sex.
Additionally, the legislative package designates May 17 as a day to honour family sanctity and respect for parents.
“This initiative clearly demonstrates who upholds our traditional Georgian values and who is behind the propaganda that could cause significant harm, especially to minors,” stated Rati Ionatamishvili, Chair of the Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration Committee and one of the initiators of the draft law.
