Legal Affairs Committee backs all three candidates for Supreme Court judges
Legal Affairs Committee supported all three candidates for Supreme Court judges nominated by the Supreme Council of Justice for election to the Parliament of Georgia.
The candidates, Gizo Ubilava, Badri Shonia, and Gocha Jeiranashvili, will be voted for without further discussion at the plenary session. This decision followed a lengthy hearing of the candidates, which lasted more than four hours at the Committee on Legal Affairs meeting.
According to the committee chair, Anri Okhanashvili, the order in which the candidates will assume their positions is determined by the alphabetical order of their surnames. The first candidate selected will begin his role immediately. As seats become vacant, the remaining candidates will subsequently assume their positions.
“Since the seat becomes vacant in September or October, the two candidates, in alphabetical order of their surnames, will further fulfil the authority of the judge of the Supreme Court,” stated Okhanashvili.
