Lawyers gathered in support of Vazha Gaprindashvili, a doctor detained by the Tskhinvali occupation regime. According to them, they have the expectation that Vazha Gaprindashvili will be released at the so-called trial scheduled for tomorrow.
Human rights defenders have appealed to the international community of lawyers, including Russian colleagues, to support the release of Vazha Gaprindashvili.
However, with the same content, the Ossetian lawyer living in Georgia addressed the occupation regime in the Ossetian language.
The family of the detained doctor thanked the lawyers for solidarity. According to Tamila Lapanashvili, the wife of Vazha Gaprindashvili, the government does its best for release of the doctor, but the outcome of this effort will be seen tomorrow, at so-called trial.
Tbilisi-based doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili was illegally detained by Russian occupation forces near the occupation line with Akhalgori Municipality on November 9. He was sent to a two-month pretrial detention on November 15.
Vazha Gaprindashvili was charged with “illegally crossing the border” under article 322 of the criminal code of Russia. Tbilisi activated the hotline mechanism of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) to Georgia.
