Speaker Papuashvili: Gov't interested in Saakashvili to grow stronger, while his associates aggravate situation

“The interests of the Georgian government and the ex-president’s allies do not coincide. The government is concerned about Mikheil Saakashvili’s health, but his allies want his health to deteriorate,” declared Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

The Speaker went on to say that Mikheil Saakashvili refuses to cooperate with the physicians at the Vivamedi Clinic and assaults nurses. Disobedience and hunger strikes are used to get the jail term suspended or deferred. The clinic’s administration is in a bind.

The Speaker also commented on the video released by the Special Penitentiary Service.

“We must not dismiss the context. For the previous several days and weeks, there has been a discourse as if Saakashvili was counting his final minutes, even though he was accepting visitors every day and they were aware of the real situation. Finally, society saw that the truth differed vastly from what they sought to display,” Papuashvili stated.

The Special Penitentiary Service released video footage of Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgia’s former president, on December 14.
