The United Airports of Georgia has announced the commencement of a significant construction project at Kutaisi Davit Agmashenebeli International Airport, which will involve the development of a new 3.5 km runway along with the enhancement of airport infrastructure.
This initiative aims to improve the airport’s capacity to accommodate large aircraft and to establish a logistics centre and cargo terminal.
With an investment of up to GEL 240 million, this project exceeds the total capital expenditures made at Kutaisi Airport from 2012 to 2024 by an additional 40 million GEL. The construction is part of the airport’s comprehensive development plan, which was developed with the expertise of IATA Consulting, a leading global aviation consultancy.
The construction work is being undertaken by Anagi and is anticipated to be completed by the spring of 2026.
Upon completion, Kutaisi International Airport will be the only airport in Georgia equipped to handle large aircraft without restrictions. Currently, the airport operates under code D, featuring a 2.5 km runway that supports medium-sized aircraft operations.
