PM Kobakhidze: Fair and healthy approach needed to restart US-Georgia relations

“It is essential to restart relations with the US, and doing so requires a fair, correct, and healthy approach,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

According to Kobakhidze, Georgia is awaiting similar steps from the US.

“I had a personal meeting a few days ago with a senator and a congressman, but conversations alone are not enough. We clearly conveyed to our colleagues how we expect the reset of Georgian-American relations. The key and necessary condition for this reset is that, over the next year, we do not see a repeat of the issues we’ve faced over the past four years. I won’t go into the specifics again, but the actions of the former US ambassador, among other things, have contributed to the problems artificially created during this period.

A reset of relations is needed, and for that, we need a fair, correct, and healthy approach. We have taken steps on our side and are now in standby mode, expecting reciprocal steps from our American colleagues,” said the Prime Minister.
