The monument of King Erekle II will be erected at Kakheti highway, on the territory of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) building where the Tbilisi City Hall is reconstructing a park, said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at the government meeting.
According to the PM, the wisdom of Erekle II preserved the Christian identity of Georgia which is an indispensable part of the country’s European identity, and the government is obliged to respect Georgia’s history and its heroes.
“We must respect Georgia’s history and all its heroes, who have special merit before our country and played a special role in preserving Georgia’s national and religious identity. Our King Erekle II is outstanding in that respect,” he said, adding the monument would be erected according to the sketch of Merab Merabishvili (Georgian Artist/ Sculptor).
