Kartu Foundation to fully finance construction of Kutaisi International University
For the first time after the restoration of independence, a new Georgian state university has been established that is a historic event – Nikoloz Chkhetiani, Founder of Kutaisi International University and Chairman of the Board of Cartu Foundation said during the presentation of a new educational space established by Cartu Foundation and Kutaisi International University.
Chkhetiani said that Cartu Foundation was one of the largest charity organizations in Georgia which had implemented the projects in the total amount of USD 3 billion after 1995 and the projects of Kutaisi International University and an accelerator were the largest ones. It will cost one billion Euros to implement both projects.
Chkhetiani said that the idea to establish Kutaisi International University belonged to Bidzina Ivanishvili, Chairman of Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia Party. The presentation of the project was held on September 8 of 2016. The project will be fully financed by Cartu Foundation.
The university complex will be built near Kutaisi across 153 hectares of territory. The complex will include three dormitories, a separate campus for teachers, a library and a canteen. Chkhetiani said that arrangement of sports infrastructure, clinic and student labs was also envisaged by the project on the second stage.
Chairman of Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia Party Bidzina Ivanishvili, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, President Salome Zurabishvili, Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze, representatives of legislative authorities and academic circles and Cartu Foundation attended the presentation of the project.
