Justice Ministry, unable to treat ex-president overseas, suggests consulting any foreign physician
The Ministry of Justice lacks the jurisdiction to transfer jailed Saakashvili to a foreign hospital for treatment, Justice Minister Rati Bregadze declared at today’s press conference, having advised the ex-president to invite any doctor from any overseas clinic.
“Today, there is a strong push to take convicted Saakashvili overseas for treatment. We should remind everyone that the convict is serving his sentence at a Georgian penitentiary facility, and the Ministry of Justice lacks jurisdiction to make such a request,” he stated.
The Ministry of Justice, according to Bregadze, permits the jailed ex-president to invite any physician from any overseas hospital to assist in his treatment.
The Justice Minister also replied to the lawyer’s accusation about Saakashvili’s alleged poisoning by stating that the ministry acted immediately after the information spread.
“We sought a toxicological study from the Samkharauli Examination Bureau, but Saakashvili refused,” the Minister stated.
