Joe Wilson calls on colleagues to insist on new elections in Georgia
“Sadly, we’re witnessing the trend of democratic backsliding in the OSCE region that unless reversed, will endanger European security, individual freedom and economic prosperity, and create jobs. ,” the U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson stated this at a joint meeting of three OSCE committees.
According to Wilson, “It is most concerning about the fraudulent election held in Georgia in October and the disturbing pattern of repression that has followed in the wake, tragically providing for the rigged election that occurred in Georgia.”
“Did a factor Georgian Dream regime in Tbilisi stand in violation of its freely undertaken OSCE commitments to hold fair and free elections and uphold its citizens? Fundamental freedoms subsequently have been forfeited as to their democratic legitimacy. As a result, I call on my colleagues to insist on new elections and to decline regular interaction with the Georgian Dream dictatorship until they can fulfil their demands.
In fact, the current Georgian Dream delegation today is illegitimate and has not been elected in a fair and free election as determined by election observers worldwide. Keeping that in mind, while the Georgian Dream has longstanding EU and NATO aspirations denied, we must act. I agree with the Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of Denmark at Munich.
We are not in a Ukraine war. It is a Russian war to reenact and recreate the failed Soviet Union. Today in Ukraine, but actually, we see it as occupying Transnistria of Moldova, in 2008 invading South Ossetia and Abkhazia of Georgia, invading Crimea and then the Donbas of Ukraine, rigging elections in Belarus with dictator Lukashenko, failing in Moldova, thankfully, and failing currently in Romania,” he added.
