Jailed ex-president welcomes Levan Khabeishvili's resignation from post of UNM Chair

“I welcome Levan Khabeishvili’s decision to care about his health state deteriorated due to politically motivated retribution,” said jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.

According to Saakashvili, he supports Tina Bokuchava’s candidacy for the post of the UNM Char. As the ex-president said, he also supports Khabeishvili’s decision to take up the post of Chairman of UNM’s Political Council.

“It is significant that Levan Khabeishvili quickly underwent rehabilitation and actively engaged in a decisive struggle. I support Tina Bokuchava’s election as the UNM Chair and her steps toward the party’s renewal.

We should do our best for the unification of all political forces. This is the order of people, especially youngsters today. The UNM will shift in this direction, with new faces and new ideas to be based on successful state-building traditions and a constant renewal process. Today’s decision is an example of the UNM’s renewal and strength,” Saakashvili wrote on Facebook.

Chair of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, Levan Khabeishvili resigned from his position. Kbabeishvili named health problems as the reason for resignation. Tina Bokuchava will replace him in the post.
