Jailed ex-president urges everyone to put aside ambitions, resentments
“We should all put aside ambitions and resentments. I propose to proceed guided by united lists and through the neutral platform,” said jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili at his trial via a video link.
Mikheil Saakashvili said that the main objective should be unification and the United National Movement (UNM) party is working on strengthening its forces.
“I supported forming the United Lists in 2020 and I still support this idea. This would establish a democratic government oriented towards Europe in a transition period following elections. We should all put aside ambitions and resentments. I also have pretences to people, who contributed to this misfortune to come into power, but it is not time for complaints. We are on the right path. I propose walking forward with united lists and through the neutral platform,” he said.
Mikheil Saakashvili went on to say that if the idea of forming United Lists fails, the UNM would cooperate with other parties and have strong candidates for top positions, adding he was not going to dispute his health state when watching opposition MP Elene Khoshtaria who felt unhealthy after intoxication but stood with people.
“We are many such people. I can’t look into your eyes, but I can tell you that I have put my ambitions aside and will do everything for unity. I want to recall the history of treason that is going on now – Russia spent USD 2 billion on the elections in 2012. No one hides it, the elections were held funded with Russian money,” he said.
