Internal Affairs Deputy Minister hosts NDI monitoring mission

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, hosted the National Democratic Institute (NDI) long-term monitoring mission of the 2024 parliamentary elections, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

During the meeting, Darakhvelidze discussed the Ministry’s role in ensuring a safe and democratic election process, both during the pre-election period and on Election Day. He highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining a free, safe, and peaceful environment and emphasized the significance of cooperation with authorized agencies. He also drew attention to a specific order issued by the Minister of Internal Affairs aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections on October 26, 2024.

Additionally, Darakhvelidze provided an overview of various initiatives, including the training of Ministry personnel, participation in the Interagency Commission for Free and Fair Elections, and the Ministry’s efforts to address election-related violations and keep the public informed.

He concluded by thanking the NDI representatives for their visit and expressed hope that the upcoming elections will be conducted in a peaceful and democratic manner.
