Interior Minister: Since 2019, fire-rescuers get 50 % pay-rise, bonuses after large-scale rescue efforts
Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri on Friday deemed the opposition’s claim that the rescue operation in landslide-hit Shovi resort was delayed “wrong judgment and a lie.”
“Firefighters and rescuers, as well as local police forces, border police representative, and emergency teams, had arrived on the scene within half an hour after receiving the emergency notification,” Gomelauri said during the Ministerial Hour format.
“Because of the consistent response over 200 people have been evacuated uninjured,” he went on.
The Minister noted that the search and rescue operations, including the evacuation and the liquidation efforts, did not require international assistance.
“Georgia has enough manpower, including reserve forces and special equipment, to carry out the search and rescue operation independently,” he added.
