Immunization Group: Removal of facemasks in September to be possible with optimistic prognosis

Removal of facemasks in September will be possible with optimistic prognosis, Professor Ivane Chkhaidze, Head of the Immunization Technical Advisors National Group, told the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB).

According to Chkhaidze, the prognosis depends on the number of fully vaccinated people in the country.

The recommendation will not be issued until 30-40% of the population receives Covid-19 vaccine jabs. The current situation and immunization pace do not allow making this move at this stage.

“If mass immunization begins in July, we may reach vaccination of 40% of the population by September that will make it possible to ease the restriction,” Chkheidze said.
