Hungarian PM congratulates Georgian colleague, GD on their 'overwhelming victory'
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán congratulated his Georgian colleague Irakli Kobakhidze and the Georgian Dream party on their overwhelming victory at the parliamentary elections today.
“The people of Georgia know what is best for their country, and made their voice heard today!” he wrote on X.
Orbán’s statement follows the results of exit polls, commissioned by IMEDI TV.
According to the GORBI results, as of 6 p.m., the GD received 56.1%, followed by Coalition for Change – Gvaramia, Melia, Girchi, Droa – 12.6%, United National Movement – 11.6%, Strong Georgia – Lelo, for People, for Liberty – 7.0%, and Gakharia for Georgia – 4.8%.
As per Mtavari Arkhi exit polls results, Georgian Dream has 42%; Coalition for Change – 18%, Unity National Movement – 13%, Strong Georgia – 9% and Gakharia for Georgia – 8%.
Georgia holds parliamentary elections today under a new fully proportional system, with voters set to elect all 150 members of parliament in a single round of voting. The parties must now secure at least 5% of the total vote to gain parliamentary representation. Eighteen political parties and coalitions are vying for seats in this historic race.
