“Brussels is unfair to Georgia, applying double standards,” wrote Péter Szijjártó, Foreign Minister of Hungary on Facebook following the meeting with his Georgian colleague Ilia Darchiashvili.
According to the Hungarian FM, the two ministers reviewed the development of relations between Hungary and Georgia and the process of Georgia’s accession to the European Union.
“Brussels is unfair to Georgia, applying double standards when, unlike Ukraine and Moldova, they were not granted membership status, but they are in no worse condition than the two countries that were granted membership status.
Hungary will provide all support to Georgia in the process of joining the European Union. The interim report presented to the European Commission proves that our Georgian friends have made significant progress in the accession process.
Europe would gain a lot by bringing Georgia closer to us if accession negotiations could begin, so in the autumn, when a decision comes to this, Hungary will strongly support Georgia’s candidacy for the European Union,” he said.
