Helsinki Commission Chair criticizes US administration for legitimizing Georgian elections

U.S. Helsinki Commission Chairman and the author of the MEGOBARI Act, Rep. Joe Wilson criticizes the U.S. administration for “legitimizing Georgian Dream’s authoritarian takeover” of the Georgian 2024 parliamentary elections.

“It is shameful that the Biden-Harris administration is legitimizing Georgian Dream’s authoritarian takeover of a freedom-loving country,” he said.

The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken wrote: “The Georgian people embraced democracy yesterday. Now Georgia’s political leaders must respect the rule of law, repeal legislation that undermines fundamental freedoms, address deficiencies in the electoral process, and move Georgia toward its Euro-Atlantic future.”
